Edwards Church Vision Statement, 2015

The “Congregational way” recognizes that although we can all be touched by God, none of us fully understands God.  No one holds the whole map.  Our best hope is in coming together, collaborating (literally, co-laboring) to discern and fulfill God’s dream for us, as individuals and a community.  Lay leaders of our church, elected each year, collaborate with the ministers to discern God’s dream for us and to strive to fulfill it through worship, spiritual formation and service to the world.

Church Teams

Through the Teams structure, members of the church, working in concert with the minister, organize in groups to strive to achieve the mission. To perform outreach in the community outside the church, Cathedral in the Night, Outreach Grants, Prayer Shawl, and Quilt Teams focus on providing support to others outside the Edwards Church community. In efforts to bind together church membership in fellowship and in worship, Care & Visitation, Faith Formation, Music, Sacraments, and Ushers Teams are dedicated to making the immediate faith community experience meaningful and robust. The Buildings & Grounds, Elected Core Ministry, Finance, and Investments Teams oversee the organization of the church, helping to manage the facilities and the daily affairs.

Elected Core Ministry

 

At its center is the Elected Core Ministry (ECM). The ECM is the body that provides “institutional care and feeding” for the whole church. It is composed of 7-9 members elected by the congregation, entrusted to act on behalf of the whole body between annual meetings. In theological terms, the ECM serves as the steward of the church’s common life. Its work is not merely
administrative; it is pastoral, spiritual, and missional.
