Join the Choir

Interested in joining the choir? Wonderful! We are a friendly and supportive group, and we always love to have new people join us. Here are some FAQs that may be helpful.

What if I feel like I’m not good enough to sing in the choir?

If you can carry a tune, you’re more than good enough!

Do I need to be able to read music?

It definitely helps if you can read music, but we do have a few members who do not.

When do you rehearse?

We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 7:40 p.m. We rehearse and record at least one anthem which is then played during the Sunday worship service. We are currently not singing in person on Sundays.

Is it safe to sing? What COVID precautions are being taken?

Singing is a risk, but we are being extremely careful. All singers must be fully vaccinated and must social distance and wear a KN95 mask (provided) at all times during rehearsals. We ask that singers stay home if they are experiencing symptoms of any kind. We also ask that singers test themselves if they have been traveling or in a large group of people.

Do I need to audition?

Nope. Just come to rehearsal and see how you like us!

What kind of music do you sing?

A little bit of everything! Anthems, hymns, classical pieces, spirituals, gospel songs, show tunes, music by local composers, etc.

What if I can’t make it to rehearsal every single week?

Rehearsals are mostly self-contained during the pandemic, so feel free to drop in as your schedule allows.

What if I love to sing, but I don’t feel all that confident about my skills?

We have professional singers on every voice part, so you can always lean on them for support. The Minister of Music also makes practice recordings of all the music so that you can get used to the pieces at home.

How much music do you rehearse at one time?

During the pandemic we have been rehearsing two pieces each week: one to record that evening and one to record the following week.
