Interested in joining the choir? Wonderful! We are a friendly and supportive group, and we always love to have new people join us. Here are some FAQs that may be helpful.
What if I feel like I’m not good enough to sing in the choir?
If you can carry a tune, you’re more than good enough!
Do I need to be able to read music?
It definitely helps if you can read music, but we do have a few members who do not.
When do you rehearse?
We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. On Sunday mornings we sing through all of the music for that day from 9:00 to 9:20 a.m.
Do I need to audition?
Nope. Just come to rehearsal and see how you like us!
What kind of music do you sing?
A little bit of everything! Anthems, hymns, classical pieces, spirituals, gospel songs, show tunes, music by local composers, etc.
What if I can’t make it to rehearsal every single week?
As long as you can make most of the rehearsals and feel comfortable with the music, it’s okay.
What if I love to sing, but I don’t feel all that confident about my skills?
We have professional singers on every voice part, so you can always lean on them for support. The Minister of Music also makes practice recordings of all the music so that you can get used to the pieces at home.
How much music do you rehearse at one time?
We usually rehearse three weeks in advance. A typical rehearsal will have two new pieces, two pieces that we are working on, and two pieces that we are polishing up for Sunday.
If you have other questions, please feel free to email our Minister of Music, David Kidwell.
